“Town Manager Michael Borg announced that Sisters@Heart presented its first donation of a publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the Town of North Attleborough during a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week.

On Monday, Jan. 15, Sisters@Heart hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at Town Hall alongside Town Manager Borg, Fire Chief Christopher Coleman, state Sen. Paul Feeney and state Rep. Adam Scanlon. The ceremony recognized the first installed public AED device at Community Field gifted to the town by Sisters@Heart.

“Having immediate access to an AED device during a medical emergency can make the difference between life or death,” Borg said. “Our community is extremely thankful to Sisters@Heart for making this generous donation and to all who helped secure funding, including our local and state representatives. AED devices do make a difference and there is a need for them in our communities, so we were extremely happy to partner with Sisters@Heart to make this happen in North Attleborough.”

Added Scanlon, “I am thrilled that Sisters@Heart was able to put this money to use so quickly, and get these defibrillators up and running at Town Hall.  This is a wonderful organization run by wonderful people that I was happy to support in last year’s budget, and I will always look for more ways to support the work they do to combat heart disease and stroke, and support families in individuals affected by them.”

This donation was spearheaded by Sisters@Heart, a local non-profit organization founded and directed by North Attleborough residents Lisa Deck, Jamie McHoul-O’Hanlon and Caitlan Kane. To assist in saving lives in the event of a cardiac arrest or other heart-related illnesses, Sisters@Heart donated five AED devices to be installed throughout the town for public use.

The AED devices will be located at Veterans Park, the High Street fields, Mason Field, the Beaupre Field concession stand and Community Field. Each device will be housed in a weather-proof, heated and lighted cabinet that can be accessed by the public in the event of an emergency.

To access the devices, community members will first need to call 911 to receive an access code to open the locked cabinet. Once opened, the cabinet will include the device and directions for people to follow while waiting for first responders to arrive.

“We were thrilled to gather with the key collaborators to bring this life-saving dream to reality. Collaborating with North Attleborough Fire Chief Coleman and Town Manager Borg, Sisters@Heart is proud to donate these AEDs to the Town of North Attleborough,” said Deck. “Working with Representative Scanlon, Senator Feeney and Mr. Borg, we anticipate funding to expand this program throughout the Commonwealth.”

An official ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for the spring. Additional details will be shared once finalized.”
